Who we are
Local, owner-operated home management.
Based in Pisgah Forest, North Carolina, Stillwater looks after homes in the Asheville, Hendersonville, Brevard and Lake Toxaway areas. We look after primary homes, second homes and short-term rentals. For short-term rentals, we take care of the house and the vendors, not the bookings or the guests.
Eric Schmidt founded Stillwater in 2026, bringing 27 years of experience in construction, carpentry and property management. He handles home visits, repairs and vendor coordination himself.
The founder
Meet Eric Schmidt.
Eric brings a builder’s knowledge to the everyday care of a home. He has built and remodeled high-end houses, run construction and property maintenance companies, and built homes of his own. At Stillwater, he puts that experience to work through regular visits, maintenance and repairs.
His work has included caring for the buildings and grounds of The Perlman Music Program on Long Island, managing a private estate in the Hamptons, and maintaining oceanfront properties on Kauai. He holds a Hawaii contractor’s license, and his property management clients there included The Parrish Collection.
Eric now lives in the Pisgah Forest area, close to his children. He chose Western North Carolina for its community and access to the outdoors. Away from work, he enjoys mountain biking.
The name
Named for Still Water in Pisgah National Forest.
Still Water is a picnic area on the Davidson River, a few miles from the homes we look after.
